Hamat Bah, Minister of Lands, Regional Government, and Religious Affairs, has predicted that President Adama Barrow will secure 98 percent of the vote in Saloum in the December presidential election, citing development projects undertaken by the government in the area.
Speaking in Njau during President Barrow’s nationwide development tour, Bah urged residents to increase their support for the president compared with the 2021 election.
The tour includes the inauguration of roads and health facilities as well as the laying of foundation stones for new development projects across the country.
Bah told residents to assess the government’s record when deciding how to vote and challenged opposition parties to explain what they would offer Saloum that the current administration had not already delivered.
“Some of you people love new things. When new things emerge, you will say, ‘Let’s go there; there is money,’ but it is all deceit. The government is the one in control,” Bah said.
He recalled that during the 2021 campaign, President Barrow pledged to address longstanding development gaps in Saloum, which Bah said was then the only part of the country without electricity.
According to the minister, Barrow subsequently committed to extending electricity throughout the area. Bah said he was informed shortly before addressing the gathering that communities still awaiting electricity would be connected before December following a directive from the president. The announcement drew applause and cheers from members of the crowd.
Bah also pointed to investments in roads, water supply, and education as evidence of the administration’s development record in Saloum.
He said roads constructed under the Barrow administration had improved transportation in the area, while access to clean water had been expanded to more communities. He added that several schools had also been constructed.
Bah argued that those investments should translate into greater electoral support for Barrow, predicting that the president would receive 98 percent of the votes cast in Saloum in the December election.
