Assan Martin, spokesperson for Coalition 2026, says the coalition will reject vote buying and unrealistic campaign promises as it seeks to win the December 2026 presidential election.
Speaking in an interview with West Coast Radio, Martin said the coalition intends to present its policies and programmes to Gambians and allow voters to make their choice based on the solutions it offers.
He said Coalition 2026 wants to promote a political culture built on integrity, accountability, and honesty rather than financial inducements or promises that cannot be fulfilled.
“I don’t believe in that kind of trying to buy the voter and politics of deceit; I believe in politics on the basis of truth,” Martin said.
He said politicians must be prepared to deliver on their campaign commitments and should avoid making promises they know they cannot fulfill once elected.
According to Martin, Coalition 2026 has been developing policy documents and governance frameworks that will soon be presented to the public as part of its campaign.
He added that the coalition’s presidential candidate, Talib Ahmed Bensouda, would be expected to operate within the broader vision and framework developed by Coalition 2026.
Martin said the coalition hopes to build public confidence through clear messaging and carefully considered commitments to voters.
“If we are going to win these elections, it is not only going to be on money; we have to win it on trustworthiness and truth,” he said.
Martin also stressed that Coalition 2026 does not consider the political project the exclusive property of any individual or group, emphasizing the coalition’s broader commitment to collective leadership.
