Preventive Measures to Stop the Spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Kanifing Municipality

The Kanifing Municipal Council is committed to stopping the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) amongst residents in the municipality.

1. The Council is committed to implementing the following Preventive Measures throughout the duration of the Presential decree:

1.1 Expanding cleaning efforts throughout all markets
1.2 Fumigate all markets on a nightly basis
1.3 Expanding the deployment of hand washing stations
1.4 Non-essential staff should work from home to reduce crowding in public areas and on public transport
1.5 Continue with daily communication to the public on the ongoing crisis through traditional media, social media, and megaphones in the community

2. Furthermore, the Council is seeking further support from partners to implement the following Preventive Measures:

2.1 Improving water supply in markets without a borehole
2.2 Restricting access to markets in coordination with security forces by establishing a gate system where everyone’s temperature and the presence of COVID-19 symptoms are checked with support from health officials
2.3 Limiting the number of people allowed inside each market at any given time
2.4 Enforced spacing between sellers of 1-2 metres
2.5 Closing markets at 6 PM daily and re-opening at 7 AM
2.6 Limiting items sold in markets to only essential items such as food, medicine, hygiene, fuel etc. Forbidding the opening of non-essential stalls such as clothing, electronics, etc.
2.7 Limiting the number of passengers in commercial vehicles
2.8 Work with central government to fully ban all public gatherings as articulated in the Presidential decree of H.E.
