President Adama Barrow has accused the opposition United Democratic Party (UDP) of being behind the planned November protest earlier announced by a local pressure group.

“There was a negative part of it (His trip to New York) also. Some Gambians came out to protest against me. But they are Gambians but they are UDP Gambians who came out to protest against me. (It) was the same people who organized the ‘3yrs Jotna’ protest. (It) is the same people who are also working on protesting against me in November.

“But I will call on all of them. My doors are open. Let them come, so that we work together. The issue of protesting will not solve our problem. If you are in this office, you have to face the reality. The reality is, unity is the best way forward. If we are united, we are strong. We are ready to work with even our opposition. So our doors are open,” President Adama said.

The president made the remarks at the Banjul International Airport on Tuesday, upon arrival from the United Nations General Assembly held in New York in the United States of America.

The President and delegation departed from the Banjul International Airport on Sunday 18th September for the event.

However, Barrow was greeted with a protest by some Gambians resident in New York, ahead of his address to the 77th United Nations General Assembly on 22nd September.

The United Democratic Party (UDP) could not be reached for comments at the time of going to press.
