Journalist’s Daughter Produces Court-Ordered Audio in Police Shooting Trial
Therese Fatou Gomez, daughter of veteran journalist and West Coast Radio CEO Peter Gomez, appeared before the High Court on Tuesday to comply with a court order to produce a key audio recording in the ongoing police shooting trial.
Ms. Gomez, whose father is the Chief Executive Officer and Program Controller of West Coast Radio, appeared before Justice Jaiteh on Tuesday to submit the audio file, which had been sought by defense counsel Adama Sillah during the cross-examination of Ebrima G. Sankareh, the government’s spokesperson.
The audio, an interview conducted with Mr. Sankareh on the station’s Coffee Time Show, became a matter of legal interest after Mr. Sillah requested its production to support the defense’s argument. The court granted the request and issued an order to West Coast Radio for the release of the material.
“We ordered you to produce a document. Do you have the document?” Justice Jaiteh asked Ms. Gomez as she took the stand.
“Yes, I have the document,” she replied, presenting a flash drive containing the requested audio to the court.
Following the submission, Justice Jaiteh directed that the recording be played aloud in the courtroom. As the audio began, the room fell silent. Mr. Sankareh, seated in the witness box, listened carefully, while defense attorneys took meticulous notes. Journalists scribbled the unfolding details, and the assembled public followed the playback with rapt attention.
The trial continues.
