The Secretary General and leader of Gambia Moral Congress (GMC) announced his intention to contest for the Wuli West constituency seat in the April parliamentary election against Tida Bobo Kijera, former GMC supporter.

Mai Ahmed Fatty’s announcement came two weeks after the United Democratic Party (UDP) endorsed Ms. Kijera as its candidate for the constituency seat in the April parliamentary election.

“At the request of the overwhelming members of [the] GMC support base in my home district of WULLI WEST, URR, and by the Grace of Allah, I shall submit my nomination and contest for election to the National Assembly, 2022.

“We shall conduct a clean, dignified issue-based campaign, with profound respect for other contenders in the race. We believe, irrevocably, that elections should be a contest of ideas, noting that service to the Nation is a noble aspiration,” Mai Fatty said on Facebook on Tuesday night.

Mai said if elected, he would serve as National Assembly Member of the Republic of The Gambia, committed to securing fundamental national interests, while also advancing the local cause of his district constituents.

“I shall protect and defend the legitimate interests of all Gambians, Christians and Muslims alike, as well as all other demographic groups,” he added.

If elected, the GMC leader want to focus on the following among others: “Enhancing and consolidating the oversight functions of parliament over institutions; public finance management to promote transparency and accountable governance, balanced budget, eliminating waste, distortions and corruption; human capital development and social inclusion; strengthening national sovereignty and territorial integrity and restoring domestic control over national endowment and economic resources; legislation to empower Gambian businesses through preferential treatment to spur growth, generate jobs and create wealth…” he disclosed.
