The National Democratic Party (NDP) has formally submitted its application to the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) to be registered as a political party, positioning itself to contest in the 2026 presidential election.

According to the party, the submission included all documents required under the Elections Act, including:

  • A written constitution outlining the party’s aims, objectives, structure, and governance framework.
  • The names, addresses, and signatures of registered members from each of The Gambia’s seven administrative regions.
  • Evidence of established and functional regional offices nationwide.
  • Details of the party’s emblem, color, and motto.

The NDP stated that it has fulfilled all financial and procedural requirements, including payment of the prescribed registration fee, and pledged to uphold transparency through annual financial audits. The party also emphasized its commitment to maintaining a national character free from ethnic, tribal, or religious bias.

“This marks a major milestone for the NDP as we continue to build a platform rooted in people-centered leadership, integrity, and national development,” the party said in a statement.

The NDP expressed confidence that the IEC will review its application in accordance with the country’s electoral laws and procedures.
