NDP, NAFAA Form Alliance Ahead of 2026 Presidential Election

The National Democratic Party and the National Alliance for Accelerated Advancement have formed a political alliance ahead of The Gambia’s 2026 presidential election, with leaders of both groups saying they intend to work together on a shared political agenda.

The two groups formalized the partnership on Wednesday, signing a memorandum of understanding at a news conference in Farato.

Kebba Madi Bojang, leader of the NDP, which is not registered as a political party, said the two organizations had found common ground in their priorities and plans for the country.

“I am very happy that we are signing an alliance with the NAFAA political movement to work together for the betterment of the country,” Mr. Bojang said.

He said the two groups believe their proposed programs could contribute to the country’s development, but acknowledged that their ability to implement those plans would ultimately depend on securing the support of voters.

Ousainou Allen, the leader of NAFAA, said his movement had held discussions with several political parties before deciding to enter an alliance with the NDP.

According to Mr. Allen, the NDP was the last group NAFAA consulted, but the discussions persuaded its leadership that the two organizations could work together.

“We have the belief that this grand alliance will produce something that will remove the challenges facing the country,” he said.

Mr. Allen did not provide details at the news conference about the alliance’s electoral arrangements or whether the two groups had agreed on a presidential candidate.

He also urged Gambians to independently assess those seeking the presidency and make their own decisions at the ballot box.

“Let us be careful who we give our country to, because the people seeking the presidency are many, and we cannot give it to all,” Mr. Allen said. “People have choices, and nobody should dictate to anyone who to choose.”

The agreement adds the NDP and NAFAA to a growing series of political alliances and coalition discussions taking shape ahead of the 2026 presidential election.
