The Gambia’s national team, the Scorpions were shocked with a 7-2 defeat by the Morocco under 23 team in a friendly encounter on Thursday afternoon in Morocco.

Modou Secka Barrow scored the Scorpions’ two goals in the 68 and 90 minutes; while Morocco’s El-Karti scored a hattrick, with his goals in the 17, 57 and 65th minutes, before Azard had a brace in the 22 and 47th minutes, then Amadad and Beadun scored in the 71 and 56th minutes, respectively.

The match which was hosted by Morocco, forms part of the Gambia’s senior squad technical preparation ahead of its maiden participation in the continental flagship tournament due in Cameroon early 2022.

It was the first of the three games the Scorpions are scheduled to play within a space of 6 days.

The Scorpions would lock horns with Sierra Leone on Saturday and play their third and final match against South Sudan on October 12, 2021.

In Group F with Mauritania, Mali and Tunisia, the Scorpions are hoping to pull out a good performance.

Morocco’s CHAN Team earlier this year won the African version of the senior national team comprising local based players on 7th October, before playing their official international with a meeting against the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone, two days later, Gambia Football Federation said on its website ahead of the Thursday clash.
