Man Dies In Police Custody In Banjul

Cadet ASP Modou Musa Sisawo, Acting Police Public Relations Officer, has officially confirmed the passing of an individual who was in police custody in Banjul.
“The individual was among the inmates who had presented their defense at the Banjul Magistrate Court on the 3rd, but their case was adjourned to the 4th. He had been held at the Banjul police station in anticipation of his return to court on the following day (4th) for further proceedings. On the morning of the 4th, just before the trial commenced, there was a report that one of the detainees had collapsed within the police cell. He was subsequently transported to the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital in Banjul, where he received medical attention, unfortunately, he did not survive,” Cadet ASP Modou Musa Sisawo, Acting Police PRO, told Kerr Fatou.
According to the Foroyaa Newspaper, the deceased was identified as Alpha Ceesay. Prior to his passing, he had been brought before the Banjul Magistrates Court on charges related to conspiracy to commit a felony and theft, with his last court appearance occurring on October 3, 2023.
