IEC to Hold By-Election for Half Die Ward in Banjul on April 26, 2025

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has announced that a by-election will be held on April 26, 2025, in Half Die Ward, Banjul, to fill a vacant seat in the Banjul administrative area.
The vacancy arose following the alleged absconding of Momodou Bah, the former councillor of Half Die Ward in Banjul South. Bah was reportedly part of a delegation from the Banjul City Council (BCC) on an official visit to Belgium aimed at strengthening the sister-city partnership with Ostend City Council.
According to the IEC, nominations for candidates will take place from Thursday, April 10, to Saturday, April 12, 2025, between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM daily, at the IEC Banjul Regional Office.
“Nomination of candidates for the said by-election will be conducted from Thursday 10th April to Saturday 12 April 2025; between the hours of 8am and 4pm, daily, at the IEC Banjul Regional Office,” The IEC Said.
The IEC also called on interested candidates to collect nomination forms from the IEC Banjul Regional Office starting on March 12, 2025.
“Nomination Forms can be collected from the IEC Banjul Regional Office from Wednesday 12 March 2025; onwards,” The IEC Said.
The commission further announced that the campaign period for the by-election will run from Monday, April 14, to Thursday, April 24, 2025.
