Ebunjan performing Art association would implement the first part of a two-year project on issues pertaining to the rights of the children in the Gambian.

The project which runs from 2021 -2023 and funded by the Netherlands government, aims to provide playwriting and directing skills to twelve graduates from Department of English in the School of Arts and Sciences at the University of the Gambian who are currently teachers at the upper and lower basic schools in the greater Banjul area.

Janet Badjan chairperson at Ebunjan performing art said the training would also underscore the fact that human rights culture demands responsible behaviour and activities.

She added that at the end of the training session, the teachers would motivate and encourage students’ participation in narrating factual events on human rights violations within their communities.

Mrs Badjan informed that the first collection of twelve edited short plays to be written and directed by the teachers would be performed at a planned human rights festival.

Emmanuel Daniel Joof the National Human Rights Commission graced the occasion and informed journalists that the commission would work closely with the theatre to make sure that the project goes successful, because the commission’s partnership with the theatre reflects its mission to inform the public on their human rights.
