Gambia’s fastest male athlete, Ebrima Camara has missed the 100m heats at the ongoing Commonwealth Games due to his late arrival over visa delay.
Ebrima Camara and his colleagues were stranded in France due to the delay in the issuing of their entry visas to the United Kingdom, following their participation in the World Athletics Championship in Oregon, USA.
The Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC) earlier this morning confirmed the arrival of Ebrima Camara with Africa’s Queen of track, Gina Bass and others in Birmingham for the Commonwealth Games already underway.
Camara was supposed to compete in Heat 7 of the 100m earlier today alongside Ghanaian Benjamin Azamati who emerged top in the race.
However, despite the inclusion of his name for the 100m Heat 7, Camara missed out the race due to his late arrival in English city, due to the delay in the issuing of his entry visas to the United Kingdom.
Justice M.K Saidykhan, Communication officer attached to the Gambian contingent in Birmingham confirmed the development to this reporter.
Saidykhan, however, said Ebrima Camara would compete in the 200m on Thursday.
On Sunday, GNOC said the delay of the visas of the Gambian athletes was beyond its jurisdiction, but the U.K Government; adding that the the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) Organizing Committee has taken over the processing of the visa applications of the athletes.
