Breaking News: A Commission Of Inquiry Into Councils Is Imminent
By Fatou Touray
Kerr Fatou Media has been reliably informed that a commission of Inquiry into the Conduct of all Local Government Councils and for Connected Matters has been established by His Excellency, the President of the Republic of the Gambia, Adama Barrow. The establishment of the commission to inquire into the local government councils across the country will be imminently gazetted. Our source is not able to confirm at this time the name of the judge, commissioners, and counsel who will be appointed to the commission but has reliably informed us that the former Mayor of Banjul City Council, Mr. Samba Faal, will be one of the commissioners. The commission is expected to hit the road running as soon as legally feasible.
This breaking story follows weeks of Mayors and Chairpersons of area councils being called in front of the Finance and Public Account Committee of the National Assembly to answer questions relating to the National Audit Report. To that end, we have been reliably informed by our sources at the Ministry of Finance that they have been debating for most of last week on getting the National Audit Office to do a special audit on Banjul City Council spanning the years 2018 to date.
The commission of inquiry when set in motion will ratchet up the government’s inquiry into the conduct of Local Governments across the nation.
This is a developing story. We will update you as we get more information.
