President Adama Barrow has urged the Gambia to adopt efficiency for quality output as the country’s New Year’s resolution.

In his New Year’s speech on Sunday, he emphasized the importance of injecting quality into everything we do, from infrastructure projects to everyday tasks, to ensure long-lasting benefits and a better quality of life for all citizens.

“Every new year inspires new visions, resolutions, plans, and approaches. 2024 in line with the new ‘Yeruwa’ program I proposed that we adapt efficiency for quality output as our new year resolution. Inject quality in whatever we do and act as agents of peace and development. It is only through quality work and quality outputs that durability is guaranteed. The infrastructure we construct, the work we do at home or in the workplace, the food we eat, and everything we produce would serve better with better quality,” President Barrow said.

President Barrow further called for a national commitment to achieving quality development for a better quality of life. He stressed the importance of incorporating quality considerations into all assessments of work done in the country, particularly in areas like service delivery, government contracts, policies, and public service recruitment.

“I urge that all assessments of work done in the country have a component on quality variables of international standards. This is particularly important for service delivery and it includes government contracts, policies, and personnel hired for public service,” he said.

President Barrow also highlighted the ongoing security sector and civil service reforms aimed at improving national service delivery. He emphasized the crucial role of a qualified, efficient, and well-positioned public service in delivering excellent services to the Gambian people.

“These reforms hinch on the realization that excellent service delivery depends on the quality, efficiency, and position of the workers in the public service. As a result, their welfare will always take center stage so that they have adequate support to perform their duties and responsibilities competently. In the same way, we denounced work apathy, corruption, and all forms of crime hate, and disunity,” he said.

President Adama Barrow made these remarks during his New Year’s speech on Sunday.
