President Adama Barrow has urged Gambians to love their country in order to overcome challenges.

“There are a lot of challenges in this country. The challenges are not only in the Gambia. The challenges are in the entire globe. But the best way is to be resilient to these challenges, and we have to be united. We have to be one person. We have to believe in our country. Nationalism is very, very important. I think that is the message to the Gambians. Let us be tolerant and let us preach peace. I think that is very, very important in the Gambia.

“There is peace in the Gambia, so everybody should continue that peace. We should all come together to develop the Gambia. Because this country belongs to all of us. So only peace can bring development and take us forward. There are difficulties in the country. But only through peace, can we overcome those difficulties,” Barrow said.

President Adama Barrow spoke to reporters shortly after attending Eid prayers at King Fahad Mosque in Banjul on Friday. He called for political tolerance in The Gambia, saying that it begins with him.

“I think as a head of state, I think the tolerance starts from me. My government and my party are very tolerant. We advise all political parties to be tolerant and to be very peaceful. It is the Gambian people who will decide, not you. The decision is with the Gambian people. I think when that decision is taken, we should all respect that decision, move on as Gambians and work for the national interest,” Barrow said.
