A Young Teacher Died Instantly After Being Hit By A Car In Kiang West

The National Assembly Member for Kiang West, Hon. Lamin Ceesay has confirmed the death of one Omar Sey, a teacher and native of Nioro Jattaba. He was reportedly hit by a car on Tuesday afternoon, January 31, 2023, and died on the spot.
“Yes, it is true. I was called by his brother today. He told me his brother was going to teach in Kulikunda on a bicycle. On his way going, he was hit by a car, and he instantly died,” the Kiang Wast National Assembly Member Lamin Ceesay said.
The Nioro Jattaba village official Facebook page also has the following statement posted on it on Tuesday.
“A native teacher of Nioro Jattaba Village, Omar Sey has died after a fatal road accident on his way to school on Tuesday morning.
“Mr. Sey was knocked down on his pedal bicycle by a pick-up truck on his way to school near Kuli-Kunda along the Kiang West highway, according to an eyewitness account. Until his death, he was posted at Kuli-Kunda Primary School by the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.
“He bagged a Diploma in Education from the Gambia College in 2021 two years after he heeded to encouragement by staff at Nioro Jattaba – Sankandi Upper and Senior Secondary School to do the West Africa Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in 2019.
“He had worked as caretaker in the Nioro before he went back to school after more than 20 years of drop out due to financial challenges.
“Omar Sey is a prominent young man in youth affairs in the Lower River Region, having served in youth Committees both at regional and district levels. He has membership of the Red Cross, and Activista among other youth movements and is well known”.
