Gambia’s Justice Minister Abubacarr Tambadou will appear before United Nations human rights watchdogs in Geneva from July 5 to 6.

The UN Human Rights Committee, which monitors implementation by States of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), is meeting in Geneva from July 2 to 27.

The Committee will review Bahrain, Algeria, the Gambia, Liberia, Lithuania, and Lao People’s Democratic Republic.

Gambia is among the 171 States that have ratified the International Convention on Civil and Political Rights, and so are required to be reviewed regularly by the Committee of 18 international independent experts.

The Committee will also hear from NGOs and national human rights institutions.

At the end of its session, the Committee will publish its findings, known as concluding observations, on Thursday, July 26.

Gambia will explain several issues during its appearance including concerns raised by the civil society organizations.

Among Gambian civil society organisations that sent their concerns to the UN body is the Gambia Center for Victims of Human Rights Violations.
