Fatou Kinteh, the Minister of Gender, Children, and Social Welfare, said women supporters of President Adama Barrow are organizing to pay the full nomination fee for his candidacy in the 2026 presidential election, building on a fundraising effort they undertook during the last election cycle.
Speaking at the Team First Lady Mega Rally in Jambur, Kombo South, Kinteh said women had contributed toward President Barrow’s nomination in the 2021 election and were now working to cover the entire cost of his nomination for the Dec. 5, 2026, presidential vote.
“Right now we are working with Maimuna Baldeh and women mobilizers to see that in this year’s election we pay the entire nomination fee for President Barrow. We are ready for it, and we will do it, and it is worth it,” Kinteh said.
She called on women to intensify their support for President Barrow by mobilizing their families to vote in the upcoming election, arguing that backing the president was also an investment in the interests of Gambian women.
Kinteh credited the Barrow administration with preserving peace and advancing national development, while highlighting government social welfare programs that she said provide financial assistance to vulnerable groups, including older people, widows, orphans, and low-income households.
She said beneficiaries of those programs receive periodic visits and financial support as part of the government’s broader social protection efforts.
The remarks come as political parties and their supporters intensify campaign preparations ahead of the December presidential election, with fundraising and voter mobilization emerging as central components of their election strategies.
