The Gambia government has urged its citizens living in the Middle East to assess their personal safety and consider leaving the region if conditions warrant, citing a deteriorating security environment.
In a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Gambians Abroad, officials said they were closely monitoring developments and advised nationals in affected areas to remain vigilant, follow directives from local authorities, and avoid potentially dangerous situations.
“Those in vulnerable or uncertain conditions are particularly encouraged to make timely arrangements to relocate to safer environments to avoid being caught in unforeseen developments,” the ministry said.
The advisory comes as part of a broader effort to ensure the safety of Gambians overseas. The ministry reiterated its longstanding call for citizens abroad to register with the nearest Gambian embassy, high commission, or consulate, noting that such registration is critical in times of crisis.
Officials said maintaining updated records enables the government to provide emergency assistance, disseminate timely advisories, and strengthen communication with the diaspora.
“Gambians who have not yet registered are strongly encouraged to do so at the earliest opportunity,” the statement said, adding that registration can be completed through the nearest diplomatic mission or official communication channels.
The ministry affirmed its commitment to safeguarding the welfare of Gambians abroad and said it stands ready to assist citizens as needed.
