12-Year-Old Killed in Fatal Road Accident in Foni

The Gambia Police Force has confirmed the death of a 12-year-old boy following a fatal road traffic accident in Foni. Several others, including both drivers, sustained injuries and were rushed to Bwiam General Hospital for urgent medical treatment.

According to police reports, the accident occurred between Bondali and Joreng and involved a commercial vehicle and a private car with Senegalese registration plates. Both vehicles were traveling from Bondali towards Soma when the rear tire of the commercial vehicle burst. As the private vehicle attempted to overtake, the two collided, leading to a serious crash.

Tragically, Seedy Jammeh, aged 12, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Kalagi Police have responded to a fatal road traffic accident between Bondali and Joreng involving a commercial vehicle and a private vehicle with a Senegalese number plate. Reports indicate that both vehicles were traveling from Bondali towards Soma when the commercial vehicle’s rear tire burst. As the private vehicle attempted to overtake, the two collided, resulting in the crash. Tragically, Seedy Jammeh, a 12-year-old, lost his life in the incident,” the police said.

The drivers—Lamin Touray (Sprinter) and Muhammad Abdoulie Nyang, 26, of Senegal—sustained injuries along with the following passengers:

Ida Ceesay, 35
Oumie Karry (Senegalese), 18
Abdoulie Minteh, 36
Yasanu Badginka, 46

Two additional victims, Tonko Saidykhan and Muhammed Minteh (ages unknown), were referred to Ndemban Clinic for further treatment.

In a statement, the police extended their condolences to the bereaved family and urged motorists to drive with caution, comply with traffic regulations, and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy at all times.
