Opposition United Democratic Party [UDP] has rescheduled its long awaited fundraising event to after Ramadan and urged government to put the country under lockdown immediately.
The opposition party conveyed this information in its 56th Independence Anniversary message
cited Covid-19 as the reason for the postponement. But no specific date is allocated for the event.
The information was contained in the party’s message on The Gambia’s 56th Independence anniversary read by its Leader and Secretary General Ousainou Darboe.
Darboe said UDP does not see any justification, why the government should choose to put the country under lockdown later and not now.
“The UDP has taken a responsible decision to postpone its well organized fund raising, until after the Christian lent period, and after the Muslim’s Ramadan [month of fasting], and we proposed to reschedule it to May 22nd,” he said.
Until this development, the United Democratic Party’s fundraising was slated for the 27th of February 2020.
