Sheriff Bojang succeeds Emil as GPU president


A veteran Gambian journalist who has been working for West African Democracy Radio, Sheriff Bojang Jr, has been elected as the president of the Gambia Press Union.

Bojang, a content producer for Kerr Fatou online show call The Brunch, has been elected for a three-year term.

Meanwhile, another crucial member of the Kerr Fatou, Mustapha K Darboe, has been elected as the vice president of the Union.

Darboe succeeded Narmory Trawalley.  Mariatou Ngum, a former editor of the closed Daily Observer newspaper, has also been elected as a treasurer.

Three female members has also been elected into the board of the Union. They are Fatou Sowe and Sarjo Camara.

The new GPU constitution has made it compulsory for the board to have at least 3 female candidates.

And three other male candidates, Pa Modou Faal, Mustapha Mbye and Kebba Jeffang, were also elected into the board.

The GPU congress started on Friday with the presentation of the organisation’s activity report, financial statement and adoption of the new constitution.
