PS Fisheries, Dr. Banja, On Administrative Leave, Amid Police Investigations
The Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Fisheries & Water Resources, Dr Bamba Banja, has proceeded on Administrative Leave since Tuesday, pending the outcome of police investigations into allegations that he accepted bribes from illegal Chinese fishermen operating in Gambian waters.
Over the past week, a shocking audio recording purported to be the voice of the Permanent Secretary went viral eliciting angry social commentaries on social media and wild speculation on government corruption.
The Gambia Government Spokesperson, Ebrima G. Sankareh, has confirmed this development to Kerr Fatou.
During a recent interview with Malagen’s Mustapha K Darboe, Dr Banja denied the allegations.
The Government Spokesperson also, confirmed that an investigative report about a fire outbreak that gutted the same Ministry some time ago, is in the final stages and could be submitted anytime soon.
The much anticipated report on the mysterious fire outbreak is expected to shed more light on the circumstances that may have led to the inferno that consumed so many important government files before they could be digitized.
