After rejecting them a peaceful protest permit last week, the Gambia Police Force has finally granted Gambian Women’s Lives Matter a permit.

“Please be informed that permission has been granted for your request for you to go ahead with your peaceful protest from alliance Franco to the Westfield Youth monument, Westfield schedule for Saturday 25th September, 2021 commencing from 09:00hrs to 11:00hrs,” the police stated in a letter to the group dated 23rd September.

However, the letter urged the group to confine the peaceful procession within the time schedule given; to confine it within the limit of the public order Act; to do it within the spirit and provision of the public Emergency Act to prevent the spread of COVID-19; to provide face mask and make sure social distancing of one (1) meter within the attendees is adhered to; to avoid the use of derogatory words or remarks against any person that would eventually result in the breach of peace.

The police finally warned the group that failure to comply with the conditions of the permit would result in the revocation of the permit and/or a criminal proceeding against them.
