The Office of the Clerk of the National Assembly has announced the immediate enforcement of enhanced security and dress code regulations for all visitors, staff, and members within the Assembly premises. The measures, according to the statement, are intended to maintain a safe, secure, and respectful environment for legislative activities.

The statement emphasized that firearms of all kinds—along with knives, machetes, explosives, and any other dangerous objects—are strictly prohibited within the National Assembly complex.

It further clarified that mobile phones are restricted, except for individuals who are authorized to use electronic devices in the public galleries for official purposes.

“Mobile phones, with the exception of those required to use electronic devices in the public galleries to conduct their functions,” the statement said.

Security officers who are officially entitled to carry firearms are also required to deposit their weapons with the Sergeant-at-Arms for safekeeping immediately upon arrival, before entering the main building.

The Office of the Clerk also reminded the public that the National Assembly’s dress code policy will be rigorously enforced. All visitors, including journalists, guests, and invited officials, are expected to comply with the prescribed dress standards as a sign of respect for the institution.

“Entry may be denied to individuals whose attire is deemed inappropriate,” the statement cautioned.

While acknowledging that the new measures may cause some inconvenience, the Office of the Clerk reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to safeguarding the safety, security, and dignity of National Assembly Members, staff, and all stakeholders.
