MC Cham Jr., business councillor at the Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC), has formally resigned from the United Democratic Party (UDP), declaring that the party no longer embodies the values that initially inspired his membership.

In a statement released on Friday, Cham explained that his decision stemmed from what he described as a shift away from the UDP’s founding principles.

“I joined the UDP because I believed in its vision of democracy, justice, and renewal for The Gambia. However, the party’s current direction no longer reflects the values and principles that inspired me to serve under its banner,” he said.

Cham emphasized that his resignation was not motivated by animosity, expressing gratitude for the relationships and experiences he gained during his time in the party.

“This decision is not made out of hostility. I remain grateful for the friendships, experiences, and lessons gained within the UDP, and I acknowledge the sacrifices many have made in building the party,” He Said.

Looking ahead, Cham underscored the need for political renewal in The Gambia, pledging to continue his efforts outside the UDP. “At this critical moment in our nation’s journey, I believe bold renewal and genuine commitment to the aspirations of the people are urgently needed. It is in pursuit of these ideals that I will continue my contribution outside the UDP framework,” he said.

Cham concluded by wishing the UDP success in its future endeavors while reaffirming his personal commitment to democracy, good governance, and national development.
