Lawmakers Pass Local Government Amendment Bill 2023

The National Assembly Members (NAMs) of the Gambia have on Monday, 27 March 2023 passed the Local Government Amendment Bill 2023.

The Bill was tabled before the lawmakers by Hon. Alhagie S. Darboe, National Assembly member for Brikama North, who is also the Minority Leader of the National Assembly. The Bill seeks to enhance the independence of Local Government Area Councils.

Hon. Darboe raised to move the Local Government Amendment Bill 2023 to be read a third time and pass

The Speaker of the National Assembly, Fabakary Tombong Jatta, told members that it (the bill) has been moved and seconded and that the Bill titled Local Government Amendment Bill 2023 has gone through the Consideration stage with an amendment to be read for the third time and passed.

The Speaker thus put the question for the lawmakers to pass the bill. The Bill was passed after going through all the necessary procedures of the National Assembly.
