Kiang West National Assembly Member Hon. Lamin Ceesay has accused President Adama Barrow of not being “committed” to returning the Draft Constitution to the lawmakers.
“We have no hope that the Draft Constitution will be back. We have not seen any commitment by the president to bringing the Draft Constitution back. If the president was committed, then the Draft Constitution would have been here by now. And if it comes near the next election, we are not going to accept it. We want to see a commitment from the government. Let the Draft Constitution be brought back.” he said.
Hon. Ceesay further stated that if the government was committed to bringing the Draft Constitution back, they would have brought it.
“The President gave us hope that the Constitution would be brought to the House during the first session of the 2023 legislative year. However, it never arrived. We can no longer trust that the Constitution will be returned.” he said.
Hon. Ceesay said the people who were against and castigating the Constitution are the same people who are benefitting from those laws.
“We are not against the Draft Constitution or against the previous government, but time changes and when things change you change along with them. The world is dynamic,” he said.
