Inspector General of Police, Seedy Muktarr Touray, has reaffirmed the Gambia Police Force’s dedication to serve the people of The Gambia.
Speaking at a ceremony held on Tuesday at Police Headquarters in Banjul, where nine new vehicles were handed over to the force, IGP Touray highlighted the critical role mobility plays in effective policing.
“Through vehicular patrol, police officers can cover more ground and longer distances without expending much more energy response time to calls for police assistance will be shortened and quicker than when officers pass to walk or ride on a bicycle to crime scenes to perform their duties. These vehicles couldn’t have come at a more opportune time for us. You are aware that rain makes most of our inner city roads treacherous and nearly impassable,” he said.
IGP Touray further explained that the four-wheel-drive vehicles will enhance the force’s ability to access remote areas of the country, ensuring that communities across all seven administrative regions receive equitable police services.
“True to the Gambia police force mission which lives to provide an excellent service protecting and serving the people of this country, the strategic, tactical, and operational level of Gambia police force are committed more than ever to serve the good people of this country. Likewise, residents of this country, with the limited budget at our disposal, we have succeeded in procuring this vehicle,” he said.
In his speech, IGP Touray extended his gratitude to President Adama Barrow, the government, and Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs Seedy Keita for facilitating the purchase of the vehicles.
“We are profoundly grateful to members of the National Assembly, standing committee for defense and security, especially the deputy speaker, who is the chair for supporting our request to get these Land Cruiser buffaloes as well as the pickups,” he concluded.
