The Ministry of Health has informed the public that the administering of the Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine would commence on Saturday.

“The Ministry of Health wishes to inform the general public that it will commence introducing the Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine on Saturday 17th July 2021,” the Ministry said in a statement on Friday.

Due to the limited stock of the would-be introduced vaccine, Sukuta Health Center in Sukuta West Coast Region has been tentatively identified as the only site where the vaccine can be assessed, according to the statement.

“The vaccine will be given on a first come first serve basis, thus individuals should rush to the centre on Saturday starting 9am to get their shot. For one to be fully protected with the vaccine, individuals need to receive two doses at an interval of 3 – 4 weeks,” the statement added.

The Ministry urged  those who received their first dose of AstraZeneca vaccine currently stock-out not to receive a different vaccine apart from AstraZeneca; but re-assured them that they will subsequently receive their second dose, as preparations are underway for the availability of more doses of AstraZeneca vaccine.

The public is reminded that safe and effective vaccination against COVID19 is essential to bring the pandemic under control.

The Ministry solicits the public to observe social distancing, wear facemasks, avoid overcrowded places, avoid handshakes, frequently use hand sanitizer and wash their hands with soap and clean water as critical intervention strategies to end the pandemic.
