In a ceremony held on Wednesday, January 24,2024, at the National Assembly in the Gambia,Deputy Speaker Seedy SK Njie was honoured with the Men of Honour Award (MOHA) by the GloMay Alliance Company Limited, Nigeria. The MOHA according to GloMay alliance recognizes distinguished men of remarkable character, top achievers, and influential figures in various fields.
The award, according to GloMay Alliance, is specifically reserved for men of exceptional calibre and standing who have consistently demonstrated exemplary leadership qualities and made significant contributions in their respective fields.
During the award presentation ceremony at the National Assembly on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, Hon. Fabakary Tombong Jatta, the Speaker of the National Assembly, conveyed that the MOHA celebrates individuals who have laboured diligently to uphold the nation’s integrity and have positively influenced lives through their various roles in offices, platforms, and businesses.
“Men of Honour Award is all about distinguished men of great worth, men who stood the test of time and triumph men who has inspired others unto greater works. Men who started from nothing to greatness, men who has made us proud, men who has given hope and opportunities to others,” he said.
According to Jatta, the Men of Honour Award is a tribute to individuals of great worth, those who have overcome challenges, inspired others to greater achievements, and risen from humble beginnings to greatness. It acknowledges individuals who have made significant contributions, instilled hope, and provided opportunities to others.
The mission of GloMay Alliance, as highlighted by Jatta, is to serve as a global platform for honouring distinguished personalities who serve as role models in various human endeavours, especially those who impact youth and the general populace positively.
Deputy Speaker, Hon. Seedy SK Njie reacting to the award, he thanked the Offices of Clerk, Speaker and the entire country and the Gambian commissioner to Nigeria for receiving the award on behalf of the National Assembly.
“I am encouraged by the award. It is a huge challenge that we need to do more, and we need to redouble our efforts and commitment to serving the country our commitment to our people and our commitment to being equal to the task, and commitment to delivering what is expected of us as servants of the people, “he said.
Hon. Seedy SK Njie, in response to receiving the award, expressed gratitude to the Offices of Clerk, Speaker, the entire country, and the Gambian commissioner to Nigeria for accepting the award on behalf of the National Assembly. He saw the award as a motivation to do more, emphasizing the commitment to serving the country, the people, and meeting the expectations as servants of the public.
Njie dedicated the award to the President, National Assembly Speaker, lawmakers, and the Gambian people, acknowledging that such recognition wouldn’t have been possible without the citizens granting them the opportunity to serve the country.
“Legislations or being an officer of the state is an enormous task and a challenge which is a privilege because there are many Gambians who would want to have such an opportunity but for one reason or the other they don’t, and it is on us that the Gambian people and the President assigned to do that on his behalf”, he said.
Hon. Billay G Tunkara, the Majority Leader of the National Assembly, reflected on the moment as an opportunity for emulation, stressing that being recognized individually signifies that their actions are being observed, whether within the country or beyond its borders.
“ If a country like the Gambia out of Africa, someone has been single-handedly recognized it means that whether you do your work as national assembly member whether in the country or not, you are being watched,” he highlighted.
