Citizens’ Alliance Suspends Its Spokesperson

Nenneh Freeda Gomez, Citizen’s Alliance Spokesperson

By Buba Gagigo

The Citizens’ Alliance Party (CA) announced suspension of its spokesperson over a leaked WhatsApp message from the executive group allegedly disseminated by her.

“That Ms. Nenneh Freda Gomez is suspended from the CNEC for the remainder of the current Congress which ends November 30, 2022, as outlined in Article 21, section 2, sub section 2.2 of the constitution which states:

“The Power to discipline any member who violates the disciplinary code of conduct, or any code of conduct promulgated shall be vested in the National Executive Council (NEC) or any disciplinary committee set established by the NEC. The  following disciplinary measures may be imposed by the NEC or its disciplinary subcommittee,” the party said in a statement dated 26th July 2022.

The statement added that the suspension came following a thorough investigation by its Accountability Committee, which it said found Ms. Gomez in “breach” of its Constitution.

It informed the party membership, the public, and the media houses that Mr. Modou Mboob is the Acting Spokesperson of the Citizens’ Alliance Party and all media requests and correspondence should be addressed to him, henceforth.

The leaked WhatsApp message in question is the comment by one of the party’s executive members against this medium, which the medium rebutted.

In a virtual meeting on Sunday, the CA confirmed constituting a panel to investigate circumstances surrounding the leaking of the message saying, “all members have cooperated to send details, except one”.

However, the statement recognised the suspended spokesperson’s right to appeal, against her suspension.

Nenneh could not be reached for comments at the time of publication.
