Lord Mayor Talib Ahmed Bensouda, who is running for Mayor as a United Democratic Party (UDP) Candidate in the Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC), said that his real challenger is not Bakary Y. Badjie but the Gambia’s government.

“If You look at the crowd here today, I am here with the people of KM region. But if you look at their (NPP) crowd yesterday, they came with all their national executive members Then you know it is not me and Bakary alone, but I am standing against the Gambia Government. They can say whatsoever they feel is political, but it is the people who will judge, and Politics is not about talking, it is about actions,” he said.

Mayor Bensouda stated that if you want to get elected, you need to demonstrate your achievements and your vision to the people.

“As a person when you’re looking for a position, you should show people your track record, and what you want to work for them, rather than saying the mayor did not do this and that. The most important thing for the public is for you to tell them your plans. For us, our plans are clear. Because we have plans to construct the roads, bring affordable housing, a recycling centre at Bakoteh dumpsite and Urban Public transportation.

“All these are part of our plans and, of course, we have a lot of projects that we are working on. So, for us, this is what we sell to the public. We never talk about our opponent, we only talk about things that will benefit the nation,” he stated.

The incumbent Mayor of KM, Mayor Bensouda from the opposition UDP, will face off with Bakary Y. Badjie from the governing NPP in the Mayoral Election. He had beaten Badjie in the previous election in 2018 to become the Mayor.
