The Brikama Area Council on Thursday announced the disbursement of D6 million in scholarship support to more than 200 students attending eight higher education institutions, marking the third consecutive year the council has provided financial assistance to students in the West Coast Region.

The University of The Gambia received the largest share of the funding, at D3 million, according to a statement issued by the council. The International Open University and the American International University each received D1 million.

Other disbursements included D501,266 to the University of Education, D275,000 to SUPDECO University, D150,000 to Task Crown, D39,400 to Sami Institute, and D34,334 to Grace Institute.

The payments represent the council’s contribution toward helping students in the West Coast Region who need financial assistance to pursue their education, BAC said.

“The amounts paid represent the council’s welfare commitments towards educational support for the needy students in our region,” the council said.

BAC said the scholarship program has now run for three consecutive years, providing financial support to hundreds of students across the region.

The council described the initiative as part of its broader commitment to serving residents of the West Coast region.
