Ahmad Gitteh, Special Adviser to the Minister of Digital Economy, has rejected allegations that President Adama Barrow lacked empathy toward Gambians suffering from nationwide electricity outages, calling the claims misleading and urging members of the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) to more actively defend their government’s record.

Speaking during a Facebook Live broadcast on Sunday, Gitteh argued that critics had distorted remarks made by President Barrow on Friday regarding the country’s power crisis.

“Those saying that the president did not show sympathy towards Gambians regarding the electricity outage in the country, that is not true,” he stated

Gitteh contended that the President’s remarks clearly conveyed his concern over the ongoing electricity situation and his dissatisfaction with the disruptions affecting ordinary citizens. He noted, in particular, that President Barrow’s characterisation of the power outages as a national security matter reflected the gravity with which he views the crisis.

Gitteh also issued a direct appeal to party members, urging them to step forward and challenge what he described as a coordinated campaign of disinformation.

“I am pleading to all NPP members, it is time for politics and to speak out. People are bringing forward many misinformation,” he said, adding that the party would move to publicly correct any false reporting by media outlets.

He accused political opponents of deliberately engineering a narrative designed to portray the President as indifferent to the welfare of Gambians.

He argued that President Barrow’s statement made his concern about the ongoing electricity situation clear and that he was unhappy about the outages affecting citizens.

Gitteh pointed out that the president’s description of the power outage as nation security issue showed how concerned he is and the seriousness with which he views the problem.

He accused critics of deliberately trying to deceive the public, adding that it is time for politics and they will be coming out to correct any false information published by media houses. He added that these critics aim to create the impression that the President does not care about the population.

“There are elements of non-supporters of NPP who are anti-truth, anti-progress, and anti-development. They don’t care if there is development in electricity, roads, water or schools. As long as it is from Adama Barrow it is not good and is no success,” Gitteh said.
