President Adama Barrow has challenged opposition parties to contest the upcoming December presidential election independently rather than forming a coalition, questioning their confidence in securing victory on their own.

“I have seen that there are opposition coalition talks aimed at removing me from the presidency. But if they truly believe in themselves, they should stand alone—there is no need to form an alliance. Let them contest solo; President Barrow is here,” he said.

The President made the remarks during the inauguration of the Brufut–Madiana–Banyaka–Kunkujang Mariama road project, where he dismissed ongoing coalition discussions among opposition groups as inconsequential. He added that any defeat they might suffer in this year’s election would surpass their loss in the 2021 presidential race.

President Barrow also urged voters to critically assess candidates and their promises, cautioning that opposition parties were making numerous pledges ahead of the polls. He noted the proliferation of political parties in the country, describing some as “briefcase parties,” “social media parties,” and groups that frequently appear on radio platforms.

Highlighting his record, the president stated that he played a central role in restoring democracy in The Gambia and argued that his continued leadership serves the interests of his political opponents.

“If I am not the president of this country, many of them will leave,” he said.

Expressing confidence in his electoral prospects, President Barrow maintained that his administration’s development achievements would secure him victory at the polls.
