The spokesperson of the Unite Movement for Change (UMC), Kemo Bojang, has stated that the movement will proceed with its plans to register as a political party and hold its congress, despite warnings from the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) on movements holding congresses.

In an interview with Eye Africa TV on Friday, Bojang expressed confidence that the registration process would be successfully completed, dismissing suggestions that the movement could be blocked.

“Our plan A is to register Unite as a political party, and plan B is that Unite will be a registered political party,” he said, underscoring the group’s determination to secure official party status.

He further confirmed that the UMC congress will go ahead as scheduled, adding that it will be conducted in the presence of IEC officials.

“Unite is a registered movement, and movements do congress. Unite will hold its congress, and the Independent Electoral Commission will be in attendance. They will assess our congress and serve as witnesses,” Bojang explained.

Responding to speculation that the movement might be prevented from becoming a political party, Bojang maintained that the IEC would act within the confines of the law.

“We heard people saying that Unite will not be registered, but those people are not God, and they are not the law, and we believe that the IEC will do the right thing,” he said.

He added that while processes may take time, the movement’s right to political participation cannot be denied.

“Nobody has the right to stop Unite. They can delay, but they cannot deny us the opportunity to become a political party. That is our fundamental right,” he concluded.
