Nenneh Cheyassin Secka Kebe, an aspiring vice president under the banner of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP), has urged Gambians without voter registration cards to take part in the country’s upcoming supplementary voter registration, warning that the nation’s future depends on citizens exercising their right to vote.
Speaking this week on Coffee Time With Peter Gomez, Ms. Secka Kebe called on Gambians who feel marginalized or burdened by economic hardship to ensure they are registered ahead of the next elections.
She said those who have lost children to irregular migration, graduates struggling to find employment, and families coping with rising market prices and worsening living conditions should make their voices heard through the ballot.
“They are banking on you not registering,” Ms. Secka Kebe said during the program. “Take no for an answer. Your voice and your discernment will be heard when you go to the ballot.”
She also pledged to conduct a campaign grounded in facts rather than personal attacks, emphasizing what she described as the high stakes of the political process.
“Your future is at stake. Your life is at stake,” she said.
The Independent Electoral Commission has announced that a supplementary voter registration exercise will take place from April 8 to May 21, 2026. According to the commission, the exercise is intended for eligible Gambians who were not registered during the 2021 voter registration period, as well as citizens who will turn 18 by Dec. 5, 2026.
In a recent statement, the commission urged eligible citizens to take part in the registration, noting that voting is both a constitutional right and a civic responsibility.
The commission also said that voters who registered in 2021 but whose voter cards have been lost, damaged, or mutilated will be able to obtain replacements at any registration center free of charge.
