The spokesperson for the Unite Movement for Change, Kemo Bojang, on Sunday rejected suggestions that his political movement could serve as a political springboard for other presidential hopefuls, insisting instead that the movement is positioning itself to capture the presidency outright.

In a statement posted on his official Facebook page, Mr. Bojang dismissed what he described as speculation that other parties might rely on UMC to secure the State House.

“It’s nothing short of delusional to believe that another political party will clear the path for you to the presidency,” he wrote.

Mr. Bojang challenged aspiring candidates to seek power independently, urging them to make their case directly to voters.

“If you truly believe you deserve to lead this country, then have the courage to stand before Gambians, present your vision, and win an election on your own merit,” he said.

He also rejected any suggestion that UMC intends to play a subordinate role in future political alliances.“UNITE is not a political ladder for anyone’s personal ambition. We are not here to play the role of kingmakers,” Mr. Bojang said, using the party’s short name.

Emphasizing the movement’s long-term strategy, he said UMC was focused on building what he described as a disciplined, principled national organization, rather than engaging in tactical partnerships driven by short-term political calculations.

“Our mission is clear and unapologetic, our sight is firmly set on Marina Parade,” he wrote, referring to the location of the State House. He added that the movement was grounded in “principle, discipline, and national interest, not political desperation.”

Mr. Bojang expressed confidence in UMC’s prospects, saying he believed the party would form the next government.

“By the will of Allah, through unity, hard work, and the mandate of the people, we will form the next government,” he said. “Anything else is wishful thinking dressed up as strategy.”
