Sulayman Saho, National Assembly Member (NAM) for Central Badibou, and Yaya Menteng Sanyang, NAM for Latrikunda Sabiji, have called for an independent investigation into allegations that Anti-Corruption Commissioner Almameh S. Manga extorted money from a suspected land scammer.

Speaking on the Kerr Fatou Show on Thursday, Hon. Sanyang said he could not determine Mr. Manga’s guilt but stressed that the Anti-Corruption Commission is a critical national institution whose credibility must be protected, particularly at its formative stage.

“I will not call for his resignation, but I would want an independent body to be established to look into the matter,” Hon. Sanyang said.

He added that once an investigation is concluded, he is confident the National Assembly will take the appropriate action based on the findings.

Hon. Saho echoed similar sentiments, noting that while the National Assembly is responsible for vetting anti-corruption commissioners, their appointment ultimately rests with the President.

He explained that the allegations against Mr. Manga have not yet been brought before any parliamentary committee, but clarified that lawmakers can raise the issue with relevant committees during plenary sessions or through a public petition.

“If he is found guilty, the necessary action should be taken because we cannot allow the institution to become polluted. It is an institution that both the executive and legislative branches worked hard to establish in order to mitigate corruption,” Hon. Saho said.

He further emphasized that law enforcement agencies exist to protect citizens, not the other way around, reiterating the need for a thorough investigation into the matter. “The matter should be investigated,” he said.
