433

An employer has been arraigned before the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court on charges of assault causing actual bodily harm, following allegations that she poured hot oil on a member of her staff.

The accused, Jainaba Faye, appeared before Magistrate A. Manneh, with the prosecution led by Police Prosecutor Inspector Kebbeh on behalf of the Inspector General of Police. When the matter was called, the prosecution formally presented the charge sheet to the court.

According to the charge, Ms. Faye is accused of committing assault causing actual bodily harm, an offence contrary to Section 196 of the Criminal Offences Act, 2025. Prosecutors allege that on January 20, 2026, in Bakoteh, she assaulted her employee, Mam Jara Jarju, by pouring hot oil on her face, causing physical injuries and bodily harm.

Ms. Faye pleaded not guilty when the charge was read in open court. Following her plea, Inspector Kebbeh applied for an adjournment to enable the prosecution to call its first witness and present evidence.

Magistrate Manneh granted the application and admitted the accused to bail in the sum of D300,000, with three Gambian sureties. Ms. Faye, however, was unable to meet the bail conditions at the time of the hearing and was consequently remanded at Mile 2 Central Prison, pending the fulfilment of the bail requirements.

The case was adjourned to February 11, 2026.
