DLEAG Arrests 22 Suspects in Nationwide Drug Operations

The Drug Law Enforcement Agency of The Gambia (DLEAG) has arrested 22 suspects and seized significant quantities of suspected illicit drugs in a series of coordinated operations conducted across the country.

In one of the major seizures, DLEAG officers on January 10, 2026, arrested 49-year-old Lamin Sanneh of Kanilai after discovering 150 bundles of suspected cannabis sativa concealed in cement paper and packed inside five white-and-blue flour bags.

According to a statement from the agency, several other suspects were apprehended in possession of various prohibited substances. They include Umaru Camara, a 31-year-old Sierra Leonean national found with suspected skunk and kush; Yaya Jawneh, 20, of Brufut, who was arrested with suspected cannabis sativa, skunk, kush, and ecstasy; and Ebrima Jabbie, 29, of Brikama Nyambai, who was found with suspected hashish and ecstasy.

At the Barra Ferry Terminal, DLEAG arrested Eliman Ceesay, 34, Abdoulie Manneh, 25, both found with suspected cannabis sativa, and Musa Badjie, 23, who was allegedly in possession of 15 bundles of suspected cannabis sativa.

Other arrests include Kebba Samureh, 23, with suspected kush; Lamin Touray, 37, with suspected cannabis sativa and kush; Matar Camara, found with suspected cannabis sativa; Muhammed Marr, 21, with suspected skunk and ecstasy; Alagie Keita, 22, with suspected cannabis sativa; Sainey Kanyi, 25, with suspected crack cocaine; and Saikou Barry of Berewuleng, who was allegedly found with 20 wraps of suspected cannabis sativa.

Further arrests were made during separate operations. They include Yassine Muhammed, a 35-year-old Tunisian national residing in Brusubi, arrested in Manjai with a wrap of suspected cocaine; Jacob Jatta, 24, of Kartong, found with 10 pills of suspected ecstasy; Matarr Sambou, 28, of Ebo Town, arrested in Senegambia with four small bags of suspected cannabis ruderalis; and Sarjo Jallow, 18, of Tallinding, found with 30 small bags of suspected cannabis ruderalis.

Others include Yusupha Saidy, 22, of Jamburr, who was allegedly found with 93 wraps of suspected kush; Modou Lamin Kujabi, 36, of Tanji, arrested with six parcels of suspected cannabis sativa; Sanna Keita, 31, of Jareng, found with 12 wraps of suspected cannabis sativa; and Buba Bayo, 20, of Sinchu Sorrie, who was allegedly in possession of 35 wraps of suspected cannabis sativa.

DLEAG said all suspects are currently in custody as investigations into their respective cases continue.
