Police Forensic Photographer Submits Postmortem Images as Omar Badjie Inquest Proceeds

The coroner’s inquest into the death of 27-year-old Omar Badjie moved into a technical evidentiary stage on Tuesday as a police forensic officer testified on the postmortem examination conducted on the deceased.

Detective Corporal Babou Mbye, the tenth prosecution witness, appeared before Principal Magistrate Anna O. Mendy at the Brikama Magistrates’ Court. A member of the Crime Record Office and the Scientific Support Unit, Detective Corporal Mbye presented photographic evidence taken during the postmortem examination of Omar Badjie.

In his testimony, Mbye explained that his responsibilities include crime scene investigation and forensic photography. He told the court that he was assigned by his superior, Superintendent Francis Jatta, to document the postmortem examination conducted on 30 September 2025.

The witness stated that the examination took place at the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital (EFSTH) in Banjul, four days after the incident that allegedly led to Omar Badjie’s death. He added that he attended the procedure alongside Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Malang Badjie and Corporal Edrisa Jarju.

“I took photographs of the late Omar Badjie before the postmortem examination and also during the procedure,” Mbye testified. “Whenever the doctors requested a photograph, I complied.”

Detective Corporal Mbye tendered eleven photographs into evidence, documenting different parts of the deceased’s body as directed by the medical examiners, Dr. Daffeh and Dr. Leigh. The court admitted the images and marked them as exhibits.

Principal Magistrate Mendy subsequently adjourned the inquest to Monday, 19 January 2026, for the continuation of proceedings.
