The United Democratic Party (UDP) has recorded two more resignations, as Alhagie Sedia Fofana, chairman of the party’s Morocco chapter, and Lamin Ceesay, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Barra village, formally stepped down from their positions and membership.

In his resignation letter, Fofana cited the party’s reluctance to embrace change, lack of transparency, and persistent internal conflicts as the main reasons behind his decision.

“The UDP’s unwillingness to listen to the Gambian people, especially concerning the decision for the 2026 general election, has left me disheartened,” Fofana wrote. He further stated that the party’s failure to address internal disputes has fueled division and weakened its collective mission. “The senseless infighting and hate-mongering. These challenges have made it impossible for me to remain aligned with the UDP.”

Ceesay, for his part, submitted a brief resignation letter announcing his immediate departure both as the UDP Barra village PRO and as a party member. He expressed gratitude for the working relationship he enjoyed during his time with the party.

“This is to inform you that I have resigned from my position as the United Democratic Party Barra Village PRO with immediate effect and also resigned from the party,” he wrote.

The UDP has recently been hit by a wave of high-profile resignations, with several members publicly citing lack of transparency, internal discord, and disagreements over leadership as their reasons for leaving.

Despite the departures, party officials have maintained confidence in the UDP’s resilience, insisting it remains strong and united.
