The Gambia Teachers Union (GTU) has asked the teachers on a sit-down strike to resume work; saying affected regions have now been paid their Covid allowances.

“On the balance of evidence, we have received feedback from the members that teachers in all affected regions have now been paid their Covid allowances. In case of any omissions, teachers are advised to draw the attention of their respective Regional Chairpersons or directly to the Office of the General Secretary for redress.

“In view of the aforementioned, the industrial action sanctioned earlier is hereby revoked effective (today) Tuesday 15 February 2022. Teachers are hereby requested to return to work with immediate effect and continue doing their best,” the GTU said In a press release dated 15 February 2022.

The Union thanked the public for their understanding and called on stakeholders to work with the Union to avert the occurrence of such in the future.

“The Union would like to once again renew its commitment and resolve in safeguarding its principles and commitment to the Students, the profession and the society at large.

We would like to thank the government and the general membership in particular, for their cooperation and support throughout this specific Journey,” it added.
