Kumba Jaiteh, a trained lawyer herself, said there is no law that gives the president the powers to sack a lawmaker.

A United Democratic Party member nominated into the National Assembly by President Adama Barrow has been relieved, according to reports.

Kumba Jaiteh, the secretary general of the UDP female youth wing, has been informed of her sacking on Friday evening.

Jaiteh told Kerr Fatou on Friday that she did not receive any letter indicating that she has been sacked.

She however said she was informed by the Majority Leader Kebba K .Barrow who told her that the speaker has confirmed her sacking.

“Once you are sworn in, you are a National Assembly member and you cannot be fired. That is the position of the law,” said Jaiteh.

Relations between Barrow and UDP are going through difficult times. If confirmed, Kumba will be the second UDP member to be sacked by the President.

Almamy Taal, the party’s spokesperson, has been fired from the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation secretariat few months ago.

Analysts said Taal’s sacking was politically motivated.
