Three Men Plead Not Guilty in Kiang Keneba Robbery Case
Three men accused of orchestrating a string of armed robberies in the town of Kiang Keneba have pleaded not guilty to multiple charges, including robbery, conspiracy, and theft.
The defendants — Momodou Lamin Bah, Alagie Kah, and Biram Bah — appeared last week before Justice Sidi K. Jobarteh at the High Court in Banjul, where they formally denied all seven charges brought against them in a bill of indictment filed by state prosecutors. The charges stem from a series of alleged coordinated attacks on businesses in Kiang Keneba on February 23, 2024.
Prosecutors allege that the men conspired to rob the Medical Research Council (MRC) office, MSJ Forex Bureau, and Yonna Forex Bureau, and that they carried out the robberies while armed with dangerous weapons. Among the items reported stolen were a white Toyota Land Cruiser with registration number MRC257, a cash safe containing D38,300.00 from Yonna Forex Bureau, and another cash safe with D86,666.00 from MSJ Forex Bureau.
The prosecution further accuses the men of stealing equipment belonging to a local resident, Muhammed Lamin Ceesay, including a large hammer valued at D3,000.00 and a smaller hammer worth D2,000.00.
The state has charged the men with three counts of conspiracy to commit felony, three counts of robbery contrary to Section 273(2) of the Criminal Code, and one count of stealing.
All three defendants denied the allegations.
The prosecution announced its intention to call twelve witnesses, including civilians and law enforcement officers. Among those expected to testify are Lamin Danso, Saikou Sanyang, Buba Jabang, Ebrima Jallow, Alieu Jammeh, Lamin Ceesay, Alasan Badjie, Muhammed Lamin Ceesay, Edrisa Fadera, Detective Sergeant Ebrima Jammeh, Detective Sergeant Mustapha Jawo, and Police Detective Serign Bahoum.
In addition to witness testimonies, the state is expected to tender several exhibits, including the allegedly stolen vehicle, two hammers, seven geofencing printouts, two cash safes, thirty-six thousand dalasis in cash, and both cautionary and voluntary statements from the accused.
The case continues.
