Essa Mbye Faal, leader of the App-Sobeyaa Party, has issued a call for national unity and action, urging Gambians at home and in the diaspora to play an active role in shaping the country’s future ahead of the 2026 presidential election.
In a video address, Mr. Faal described the upcoming vote as a pivotal moment in the nation’s history, one that demands collective resolve and engagement from all citizens.
“This is a defining moment that calls for unity, conviction, and action. The future of the Gambia is being shaped anew, and every Gambian at home and abroad has a vital role to play”, he said.
Framing the election as more than a contest between political parties, Mr. Faal said it represents a broader struggle over the country’s direction and the well-being of its people.
“This election transcends political affiliation. It is about safeguarding our collective future and restoring hope to our people”, he said. “Today, our country is grappling with the weight of ineffective leadership and deep-rooted corruption. Families are struggling under an unbearable high cost of living. Unemployment continues to rise”, underscoring the economic hardship Gambians are facing.
Mr. Faal placed particular emphasis on the role of Gambians in the diaspora, calling their participation essential rather than optional. He described them as a critical support system for democratic values, accountability, and the protection of national institutions.
“Fellow citizens in the diaspora, your engagement is not optional, it is essential. You are a powerful force and a steadfast support system for those on the ground who continue to stand for democracy, accountability, and the protection of our national institutions”, he noted.
He urged diaspora Gambians to strengthen their involvement with party chapters both inside and outside the country and to remain actively engaged with relatives and communities back home.
“Therefore, I formally invite you to engage actively with our U.S. chapter, and indeed with all our chapters around the world, and to recommit yourself to this national cause. Your continued participation is deeply valued. Keep educating, motivating, and mobilizing your families and friends back home. Every conversation matters”, he said.
Addressing migration and security concerns, Mr. Faal lamented the continued loss of young Gambians undertaking dangerous journeys to Europe in search of opportunities denied to them at home. He said the persistence of insecurity and economic hardship underscores the urgency for change.
“Insecurity persists. Most tragically, we continue to lose our young people to dangerous journeys across the Mediterranean, called the backway. Some even call it Barcelona or Barça, as their search for opportunities was denied them at home. These realities demand action, not silence. Your voice matters. Your influence counts. Your participation can be the catalyst for real and lasting change”, he emphasized.
Expressing confidence in the collective strength of Gambians, Mr. Faal said meaningful transformation is possible if citizens act together with purpose and determination. He reaffirmed his commitment to stand with the people on election day.
“The power to transform our nation lies in our collective courage and determination. Change is within reach if we choose to stand together and act with purpose,” he said.
