The National Assembly member for Latrikunda Sabiji, Hon. Yaya Menteng Sanyang, said on Saturday that a major opposition rally in Tallinding reflected growing cooperation among opposition parties ahead of The Gambia’s 2026 presidential election.
Speaking at the National Democratic Party’s (NDP) mega rally, which drew large crowds and featured leaders and representatives from several opposition groups, Mr. Sanyang said the gathering demonstrated what he described as a shared commitment among opposition forces to unseat President Adama Barrow in the next election.
“The opposition has one goal—to remove President Barrow in 2026,” Mr. Sanyang told supporters.
Mr. Sanyang, who also serves as UNITE’s First Deputy Party Leader for Finance and Administration, said the event should reassure Gambians that opposition parties are working to build a united and formidable political front.
He argued that cooperation among the various political parties and movements would be essential to mounting a successful challenge against the incumbent president.
Mr. Sanyang also said UNITE remains open to working with other political parties and groups that share its objective of defeating President Barrow through the ballot box in the 2026 presidential election.
The rally comes as opposition parties continue discussions over possible alliances and cooperation ahead of the vote, with several political leaders publicly calling for greater unity to strengthen their electoral prospects against the governing National People’s Party.
